In KLF: Chaos Magic Music Money, he uses it as the departure point on a wild romp through the career of one of the most subversive musical acts of the past few decades. His argument is that burning a million quid wasn’t a political or artistic statement, rather an invocation of chaos - a magical act inspired by the edicts of Dadaism and Discordianism that kindled the modern world into being. Before the band cremated their million pound effigy, they originally planned to nail the money to a wooden board and sell it to the Tate for £750,000. While the band pointed out they would immediately make a profit of £250,000, ‘which they could use to buy some real art’, the Tate decided it would be too much of a security risk to house the piece in their gallery and passed.

Videos you watch may be added to the TV 2007-08-30 The band KLF really had burned a million quid. The money, practically all the former chart-topping duo had left in their account, made a good fire. Did the KLF burn a million quid? Rather than, the KLF burn a million quid. Only after we went to press did our photographer turn up with the blackened £50 notes. Too late. I felt less than The KLF (also known as the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, the JAMs, the Timelords and other names) are a British electronic band formed in London in 1987.
