The Gulag Archipelago and One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich are two of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's most well recognized works; but the writer never shied away from experimentation or remained committed to one single literary form. After being an open secret for decades, the prison system overseen by the Gulag became synonymous with forced labor and dictatorship when it was publicized to the world by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn with 1973's The Gulag Archipelago. These days the word "gulag" is used as a generic term for a harsh political prison. Solzhenitsyn would go on to author a massive three-volume tome on his time in the Soviet gulag system which he entitled The Gulag Archipelago. Published in 1973 (outside the Soviet Union), it led to his expulsion from the Soviet Union in 1974.

One book by Solzhenitsyn that I have yet to read (or even see a copy of) is his "Two Hundred Years Together" about Russian-Jewish relations in the 19th and 20th Centuries.
